ARC AGM - Wed 26 October 2016, Aultbea Hall
Chairperson's Report 2016
During the last year, the planning application, which we had submitted in July 2015, was approved, and Planning Permission was granted in February of this year.
We also continued with the Business plan, together with the Operation Plan, and Income plan, all important components of the Big Lottery Stage 2 application. The application was reviewed by Andy Normansell of Big Lottery at two stages, and the comments he made enabled us to refine our application, prior to formal submission, which was made at the end of August.
As we await the outcome of the Stage 2 application, we are now focusing on match funding, local funding, VAT implications, etc.
We ran a very successful Crofters' Ball in March, followed by our usual Raft Race and Funday in July which, once again, was well supported. We also ran the bar at the Great Wilderness Challenge Ceilidh in Poolewe in August, all of which enabled us to ad over £8,500 to the fund.
We have also decided to run a pop-up cafe in Aultbea Hall, and this is being launched on Thursday 3rd November.
Finally, I would like to thank each and every member of the team for all their hard work and support over the year.
Willie Grant
ARC Chair
ARC AGM - June 2016, Aultbea Hall
Chairperson's Report 2015
Following the last AGM, In October 2014, whilst continuing to develop our business plan, we began a very intensive phase to select an architect team and design for the new building.
Our Project Manager, Niall, produced a very detailed design brief, which was sent out to selected architects in early December 2014. Tenders were received by late January 2015, and after much deliberation and meetings with the architects teams, Threesixty Architecture were chosen to develop the detailed plans for the New Community Centre.
We were then able to submit our application for a Development Funding Grant from the Big Lottery, and were delighted to be awarded a grant of £77,237.
This award is to cover the costs of engaging an architect-led professional design team, site investigations, planning fees and the appointment of a project officer.
Over a period of two months, the ARC Planning sub-group then worked extensively alongside Threesixty Architecture to finalise the draft plans to a position to present them to the community for final consultation and comment prior to submitting them for full planning permission.
A well attended and useful community consultation was held on 18th July 2015, following which the design was submitted for full planning approval.
While all this was going on, in March, Niall was co-opted as a director of ARC, and Chris Conniff completed her contract as project officer with ARC. In June, Gairloch and Loch Ewe Action Forum (GALE) were appointed to perform the project officer role.
Finally, I would like to thank each and every member of the team for all their hard work and support over the year.

Chairperson's Report 2014
Following the last AGM, in July 2013, we continued to work with RACM towards a combined building, until September, when it was decided to pursue separate projects.
We then proceeded to work up our Big Lottery Stage 1 application for the new community centre as a standalone building. This involved much work, changing the business plan, and reviewing the building design and costings. This was completed and submitted to the Big Lottery in mid January 2014.
We were delighted to hear from the Big Lottery in March, advising us that our application had been successful, and inviting us to apply to the next stage of the Investing in Communities application process.
Since then, we have been working with Big Lottery and HISEZ, further developing our business plan to their requirements, and we are also producing a design brief for distribution to architects, so that a design team can be selected, with a view to submitting the Stage 2 application early next year.
We held a very successful workshop and team building event on 1st March, which highlighted some very useful views on what we should be trying to achieve in our new centre.
We also applied for membership of DTAS, and were accepted in November 2013. This has resulted in us having to review our Memorandum and Articles of Association, (these were later accepted by the meeting) .
The land purchase has been completed, and the land is now registered to ARC.
Finally, I would like to thank each member of the team for all their hard work and support over the last year.
